FindaSensor

FindaSensor.com provides real information on how to measure almost anything you care to mention.. Organised by functional category, the site presents the types of sensors that are available to measure a particular variable.

In each category the user is led to specific examples of available equipment, which in turn links to the supplier's listing of that sensor and links to their site.

For example, a "simple" physical variable such as temperature is covered in relation to the atmosphere, water, plant, soil, animal, home and office, or industral application. Nearly all the other variables are treated in similar manner.

Also covered are irrigation systems and components, dataloggers and the telemetry systems required to collect and transfer the data.

This site grew out of the need for more real and impartial information on sensors and sensing.. something promised but hard to find on the internet today.

After starting the "sowacs" discussion list and website in 1994, I saw the possibility to provide a source of genuine impartial information on all types of sensors, not just soil water content sensors. This then grew to the allied equipment of dataloggers, other systems and all you see on findasensor today.

Suppliers are encouraged to add their details to the supplier listings for no charge. In each sub-category, a sample product photo and description can be uploaded.

Paid advertisers receive priority listings above the standard listings and photos.

Sowacs

Closely related to findasensor.com is sowacs.com. The sowacs (Soil Water Content Sensor) discussion group and website contains information on the various methods of measuring the soil water content in situ, but concentrates on automated electronic sensors that can be continuously logged with dataloggers.
An email discussion list named sowacs is currently operating, and this serves as the main source of content and feedback for these pages. Please subscribe to the list if you are interested. There are 479 members [as at October 2001] made up of researchers, commercial suppliers and "users" of the equipment. As such there is a fairly balanced but good response to queries posed on the list.

Since 1994 it has become one of a few fairly well-known sources of information on the web.. just type soil water content into google..!

The sowacs site was started by myself, Bruce Metelerkamp in 1994, whilst employed at the Institute For Commercial Forestry Research, South Africa. I have since emigrated to New Zealand.

That's me on the right :)

... It is so easy to add products and navigate your site that I went home and added more!

...I have been aware of your site for quite some time, and refer people there and also answer the requests that we receive from your site. Very helpful.
